Cowgirl golf team denied return trip

Another excellent Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls golf season came to an abrupt end just one step short of a return state appearance. Playing on their home course at Clarmond, the teams involved endured a rain delay of the final nine holes from Monday to Tuesday. When it was finally over, Humboldt took the team title with a 372. They were followed by Maurice Orange City-Floyd Valley with 383 as both teams advance. Golbert was third at 402 and the Cowgirls fourth at 408.

“We were able to get nine hles completed by everyone before the rain hit on Monday,” stated head coach Dan Smith. “We hoped to wait out the weather and continue, because you must complete 18 holes. The rain continued, and the decision was made to play the second nine on Tuesday starting at noon. I want to thank Jim Ridenhour, course superintendent, for having the course prepared to play after all the rain. It absorbed the water quite well, and we were able to play the ball down and have a gorgeous second day of golf for all the girls.”

Individual medalists advancing to state were: Alison Schweers, Kuemper Catholic 88; Alexa Arends, MOC-FV 90; Avery Terwilliger, Humboldt 90; Halie George, Humboldt 91; Courtney Snyder, Kuemper 92. Cowgirl scores, and placings, were as follows: Shanee Tate 50-45 for 95 (8th); Kaylee Smith  53-48 for 101 (15th); Paeten Schultz  49-57 for 106 and Meghan Geary 50-56 for 106 (tied for 19th); Cassie Hanson 54-54 for 108 and Ashley Keller 54-54 for 108 (tied for 24th).
