Wright County Freedom Rock is finished

Ray Sorensen II was on hand Saturday in Dows as he finished the final bit of painting of the Wright County Freedom Rock. Sorensen noted that this is his 32nd rock on the way to painting a Freedom Rock in all 99 counties. Although the tent around the rock is still in place, the painting is completely finished and awaiting a clear coat.

On one side, the Wright County Freedom Rock depicts a Civil War soldier and a soldier of today, standing together as a symbol of veterans of all eras, and Sorensen uses a powerful quote from JFK about honoring our soldiers. On the other side of the rock is a Vietnam scene, honoring the many area soldiers who fought in that country.

Then Ray painted his signature flag draped over the top of the rock. This particular rock has a very colorful paint scheme in the sunset background, where he depicts two Huey helicopters with the soldier from Vietnam. It offers a very unique look to the work of art.
