Wrestlers win three of four in two triangulars

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling team earned a split with two northeast Iowa opponents to open their schedule last Tuesday in Charles City. While they defeated the host Comets 45-29, they also lost to a familiar foe in the Chickasaws by a 40-32 final.

The dual with Charles City opened at 138 pounds, with the Cowboys taking three straight wins to build an early lead. After Remington Hanson (138) had his hand raised via a forfeit, Reed Abbas (145) won by fall in 1:30 with Kamren Jergenson (152) doing the same in a 5:18 time. Jergenson recored two near-falls before finishing it off. The momentum from that was short-lived, as the Comets took the next four matches to tie the dual at 18-18.
