Week five, "A Flash Back to the Bygone Years"

In an 1888 issue of The Monitor, on the front page, the editor essentially bets "The Democrat" editor concerning some details of an incident. And, he means business! It reads:

AN OFFER - "The Democrat" chap seems inclined to dispute our statement that camphor (which is chemically manufactured from turpentine oil and used in products such as Vicks VapoRub, according to the website emedicinehealth.com) was rubbed on the temples and wrists of Mrs. Diggie during the alleged faint immediately after having been informed of her husband's death.

Elder was not present but assumes to know more about that part of the affair than the writer.

To settle the question of veracity we will put up $5 against a similar amount of Elder's, or any other man's, money that the camphor act was performed as stated in this paper in its issue of May 30th. Now, either put up or shut up.
