Under 40: Andy Young

This is the first article in a series featuring locals under 40 as they make a difference in the fabric of our community.

When Andy Young graduated from Clarion-Goldfield High School in 2011, his goal was to come back to his hometown and begin working in the Sumners Insurance (114 North Main) family business. Graduating from Iowa State University in 2015, he brought back with him newly acquired skills and came ‘home’.'

Volunteering in the Clarion community is important to Young. He was elected to the Clarion City Council and takes his role very seriously.

“It is important for everyone to contribute to the community in which they live. City Council is a way for me to ‘give back’," he said.

Young said he has chosen not to be part of some service organizations, as he wants to dedicate as much time as possible to his city responsibilities. Other hobbies and interests for him include playing the piano; being part of the Clarion Theatre Board; serving as Praise Team leader at the Methodist Church; plus doing some "general things around the church."
