Three new apartments coming to Meadows Assisted Living

On August 22, Henkel Construction out of Mason City began work on three new apartments at the Meadows Assisted Living. In about six months, the three medium-sized, one-bedroom apartments should be completed, which leaders at the Meadows think will help them be better able to provide for the community.

“We rarely have an apartment opening in assisted living, so we really felt like there was a need,” said Cindy Hunter, senior leader at Iowa Specialty hospital. Hunter reported that that the idea to expand had been in discussion for about a year, and the hospital foundation had considered funding and the needs of the community in its decision. She also said that adding three apartments would expand space while not adding too much work for current staff.

Changes so far involve construction on the south side of the main entrance, where one apartment on the ground floor and one on the second floor will be built. Two garages abutting that space will be converted to storage spaces. One apartment has been temporarily vacated for water and sewer pipes to be routed underneath it, and an employee entrance has been moved. The plan is to complete the outer portion of construction before cold weather hits so the indoors areas can be completed throughout the winter.
