Supervisors approve emergency Resolution as result of storm damage

Action opens up county, state resources

Wright County Emergency Management Coordinator Jim Lester presented a resolution declaring a state of emergency for the county after a severe storm rolled through early Monday morning, and it was approved at the Board of Supervisors meeting. The action is necessary to mobilize county resources to affected communities, and will also allow for state assistance if also needed. Strong straight-line winds toppled many trees in all the cities, and a tornado warning was in effect for a time after a radar indicated threat existed. No confirmed tornado was ever sighted.

“The morning started with a semi blown over on Highway 17, and Highway 69 was shut down due to downed poles and power lines,” said Lester. “Several confinement facilities in the county were hit with roof damage, and it seems that both Goldfield and Galt took hard hits.”
