Students learn valuable lessons at Youth Environmental Ag Days

Approximately 560 fifth grade students and 70 adults from Humboldt, Hamilton, Webster and Wrightcounties had a unique educational experience at the 2016 Youth Environmental Ag Days.  This was the 21styear for the event which was held May 2-5 at the Wright County Fairgrounds in Eagle Grove.  The program was developed by and continues to be sponsored by Iowa State University Extension, County Conservation Services,  Farm Bureau organizations in Hamilton, Humboldt, Webster and Wright counties, New Coop and the NC Iowa STEM HUB.   The planning team for the programs consisted of Regional 7 county youth coordinators from all four counties.

Youth Environmental Ag Days helps youth develop an understanding of the impact of agriculture upon their environment, their everyday lives and health and safety.  The program provides youth opportunities to experience the biotechnology side of agriculture, understand by-products, appreciate the importance of value added agriculture to Iowa’s economy and job market, helps them become more aware of agriculture related careers available in Iowa, learn about Iowa’s natural resources and practice sun safety.
