Sixth Drink for Pink fundraiser at Chappy's on Saturday

October is the month most people associate with cancer awareness. For the last five years in October, Drink for Pink in Clarion has been promoting awareness and raising money for treatments for breast and other cancers. Usually more than 150 attend for music, food, and the fun that comes with the raffles. It’s a pretty good turnout for an event that started as an idea out of nowhere.

“I kind of wanted to do something for breast cancer awareness. I believe it was around October when I thought of it,” said Rachel Barrett, committee chair for Drink for Pink. “It just kind of popped into my head, and we just ran with it.”

With the assistance of her brother, Nick, of Chappy’s On Main, Barret has planned and organized the fundraiser nights and the auctions and raffles that go with them. In the past, they’ve raffled off gift certificates for DJ services, product baskets, blankets, and haircuts where winning bidder gets to cut the hair of a volunteer that night at Chappy’s. Haircuts aren’t on the agenda for this year, however.

“This year we’re actually auctioning off a couple of Adirondack chairs, it’ll have our logo on it, and they’ll be painted to match,” Barrett said. Painted pumpkins will also be on sale.
