Seymour is new outreach coordinator for Wright County extension

Like many other college seniors, Sarah Seymour’s goal was to find a job before she graduated. But unlike some, she knew just the sort of work she wanted—working closely with a community in an agricultural setting. On December 16, the day before her graduation, Seymour got the call telling her she’d been accepted as the new marketing and outreach coordinator for the Wright County Extension office. After that, it was just a few quick steps from school to her new career.

Since starting work on January 9, Seymour says she’s met almost more people in Wright County than she can remember. She wouldn’t have it any other way. “I like to be able to be involved and know faces,” she said. She’s also had opportunity to get to meet local people through her fiancé, Brandon Zwiefel, and his family.

Seymour grew up in Rochester, Minnesota, where she showed horses, dogs, and rabbits in 4-H for years. She went to Iowa State, where she started as a biology major before switching to animal science, thinking she might become a veterinarian. “I started really enjoying working with the different extension people at Iowa State,” she said. That led her to an internship with Polk County extension the summer before her senior year.

Though it’s different from where she grew up, Seymour is looking forward to being part of the Clarion and wider Wright County Community. “It’s quite an adjustment, but I really like it. Much more relaxed than city life,” she said.
