Service for scholarships: Clarion Rotary Club offers $500 scholarship for more than 10 years

On Friday, January 15, the Clarion Rotary served a taco meal during the basketball games at the high school. This is a tradition that stems from an older one: for the last 10 or 11 years, the Rotary has raised money to provide a $500 scholarship to a high school senior.

“It’s just a way of giving back to the community and recognizing worthy individuals,” said Dr. Jon Ahrendson, a Rotary Club member.

Scholarship applicants are selected based on a weighted formula for factors club members believe to be important: grades, financial need, and service, which is the heart and soul of Rotary. With only those factors considered, everyone has an even playing field.

“One of the unique features of our scholarship is that they apply anonymously,” Ahrendson said.
