Senator Guth visits Eagle Grove

On September 12, Senator Ed Guth of the Iowa Senate stopped at Lewright Meats in Eagle Grove to visit with constituents. Turnout was sparse, possibly due to the Iowa-Iowa State Game, but Guth and his wife, Margaret, who is his clerk, spoke to the press about the issues they discuss in Des Moines.

Guth said he frequently visits businesses in his district, like Lewright Meats. “I like to find out how government is affecting them, and how healthy they are, to see how that will be affecting our economy,” he said. Guth himself is a farmer who lives outside Klemme.

Guth has found that businesses in general are looking for more employees, but believes lack of housing is a barrier to increasing the workforce. In connection with job availability, he also mentioned minimum wage.

“That’s a very big issue across the country, and it comes up every year in Des Moines,” Guth said.
