Phoenix Group going private practice full-time

For five years, Kris and Sue Marvin, psychotherapists and social workers with the Phoenix Group, have worked in cooperation with Clarion and Belmond’s Iowa Specialty Hospitals. With their work, the county went from passing three to four committals—court-mandated stays in the hospital to observe health—to two committals in three months. This change is due to “coordinated care,” an approach that helps link patients to doctors and the information they need to stay well, both mentally and physically.

“We had a wonderful experience there with the medical staff,” said Susan of their service at the hospital. But the Marvins are now choosing to focus entirely on their private practice at the Phoenix Group.

Kris and Susan feel that the coordinated care approach, though they won’t be helping patients in a hospital setting, is still characteristic of their mental health care methods. They look at the patient’s circumstances and help them understand the care they need.
