Osage denies Cowboys a return trip to state duals

After easily disposing of unranked Spencer 56-15, the only team standing between the 8th rated (2A) Cowboys and a seventh trip to the state duals was 9th rated Osage. On paper, it looked pretty even but it was the Green Devils that ended up pulling the mild upset 42-27 to become the regional qualifier and fill one of the eight berths in the prestigious field.

In the dual with the Tigers, Colby Lienemann (195) opened the action with a fall in 1:20. Following a Kain Nelson loss at 220, the Cowboys came right back with unbeaten Spencer Trenary (285) scoring an easy 17-second fall to make it 12-3. Kaeden Langfitt dropped his match at 106, but the Cowboys countered that with two straight wins as Tyler Stein (113) picked up a 14-0 major decision and Garrett Seaba (120) a 12-2 major for a 20-9 team score.
