Oh, my, that's a lot of pie!

A lot of people plan on doing a great deal of holiday baking, either for family tradition, gifts to give out, or just to make it feel like Christmastime. Few, however, would take on the work of making 120 pies in one go—which is what Marcie Brodersen and her family do every year for the annual hospital auxiliary pie sale.

This is the fifth year Brodersen has taken on the pie project. She said in the first few years, they took orders for pies. “That got a little messy,” she said. At Auxiliary President Meriel Demuth’s suggestion, for the last two years they’ve simply made some very large batches and sold them off.

At the pie sale, which this year took place November 17, two pies were purchased before they were even all unloaded. Now, close to 120 families will get to enjoy tasty, locally homemade pies at their Thanksgiving or Christmas table—all thanks to the hospital auxiliary and the Brodersen family.
