No charges for off-duty officer after shooting dog

There will be no criminal charges brought up against an off-duty Clarion police officer who shot and killed a dog last month.

The incident, as described across social media on Saturday, June 29, occurred when an off-leash dog approached an off-duty officer and his wife, who were on a walk with their own dogs. The off-leash dog's approach triggered a conflict that escalated into a fight. As a result, the off-duty officer drew his weapon and killed the animal.

Police Chief Steve Terhark acknowledged the incident later that evening and announced that the investigation into the shooting would be handled by the Wright County Sheriff's Office and submitted to the county attorney.
