Natural gas leak Wednesday closes several roads in Clarion, leads to evacuations-full story

Several Clarion residents, downtown business owners and shoppers faced a scary afternoon and night last Wednesday due to a natural gas leak. A crew burying fiber optic cable in the 100 block of 2nd St NW in Clarion struck a gas line at approximately 3:30PM Wednesday, right behind Clarion Super Foods grocery store.

Greg Littlejohn, owner of the grocery store and also a Clarion firefighter, was in the store when the gas line was struck. In fact he was only feet away from where it happened. Littlejohn said that when it happened, “It sounded like a jet had taken off. I thought the compressor in our refrigerator had broken.” When he stuck his head out of his back door, though, he quickly had a sense for what really happened.
