Nail and Mussman stepping down as city leaders

Of the four Clarion council members whose seats are up for re-election in November, two of them have decided not to file papers to run again: Mayor Mike Nail and Councilperson Barb Mussman.

Mayor Nail has served Clarion since 2002 when he was appointed as a city council member, then successfully ran for mayor in 2006.

Nail decided to step down simply because he wanted a change, and he believed that someone else could dedicate more time to the position.

“I figured it was time for somebody else to step up,” he said. “It’s been an honor to serve the community as long as I did."

Mussman has been on the council since 2014, but has been actively involved in city issues for longer than that as a former editor of the Wright County Monitor.

“It’s hard for me to let go, but I also feel it’s time for younger community members to step forward and put their vision out there,” Mussman said.

Though Mussman and her husband have decided to start spending part of their year in the south, she hopes to be part of the parks committee to continue to improve Clarion.
