Meet Jordan Cook, Clarion city administrator

It took the City of Clarion more than three months to find the right candidate for the city administrator position, but last week, Nebraska native Jordan Cook officially took office.

When Cook started college, he was an architectural engineering major. But he happened to take an urban studies class, which covered a wide variety of social science topics.

“It really made me interested in the public administration field,” Cook said. “I realized that my true passion was to be part of a government.”

He switched his major to general studies with a concentration in urban studies. This spring, Cook finished his master’s in urban studies and public affairs. While he was finishing his studies, he was also working as assistant to the city engineer in La Vista, Nebraska, a job he loved. But while he enjoyed working with his boss and learning about city projects, he knew he wanted to move on to work more directly in city government. That’s when he learned about a city in Iowa that was looking for a new administrator.
