Marys and Marthas: $100,000 given away in 15 years

On January 24, the local group Marys and Marthas began their sixteenth year of meeting monthly, donating to local people and causes, and spreading cheer and support throughout Clarion and the wider community. The end of their fifteenth year also brought another important milestone: as of last week, Marys and Marthas has given away over $100,000.

Every month, members of the M&Ms meet to write cards for community members—for congratulations, sympathy, to say get well soon, or just let someone know that they’re being thought of. They designate small financial gifts in the form of gift cards to help out families in need and give away “blessings bags” full of useful items to let people know they’re cared for.

They also donate regularly to other good causes in the area; in January, they gave to Beacon of Hope ministries in Ft. Dodge, local missions trips to Guatemala and Haiti, as well as St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. In total, they donated $435 in January, which brought their lifetime giving up to $100,152.
