Maasdam and Heartland Museum featured in IPTV documentary

On Wednesday, March 9 at 8 p.m., Iowa Public Television premiered the documentary “Timeless Tractors: the Collectors.” It’s a sequel to their 2003 documentary “Timeless Tractors,” which featured Clarion area collector Larry Maasdam and the Heartland Museum for their antique tractor collection. For this second documentary, IPTV spoke with several Iowa collectors, again including Maasdam.

“They came out and spent the day with Larry at the museum,” said Melanie, Larry’s wife and a board member at Heartland.

The museum has multiple rooms and buildings with tractors on display, almost exclusively Larry’s, including models dating to the 20s and some so rare only two are known to exist. He also has many more on his own property. Though the museum has many different exhibits, Melanie said the antique tractors are an important component. “The museum is just growing and growing, and the big draw is the tractors,” she said.
