Local Musician releases third album

For the first time in nine years, local musician and Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-er Tim Chipman is releasing an album, titled “Trixy.” The album takes its name from the second track, “Trixy (the One-Armed Carnival Girl).” The CD has 11 tracks featuring an oldies-rock style with guitar, keyboard, drums, and Chipman’s tenor vocals.

The singer and guitarist started making music on his own around 1999, though since then he has appeared in reunion concerts with some of the bands he played in when he was younger, including The Fifth Generation and The Fabulous Flippers, a 9-piece band with horns first formed in the 60s. “They were the first live band I ever saw,” he said. “They were the horn band before Chicago.” Chipman was hired by the Flippers in 1973.

The Flippers had a reunion in 2007, one year after the release of Chipman’s album “Gold Band Surprise.” His first album, “Best Years,” was released in 2002. He makes his music out of his small basement studio, which is crowded with a drum set, keyboard, different guitars, and digital equipment.
