Local food system to be highlighted again during Meal on Main

If you attempt to travel down North Main in Clarion next Wednesday, you may be stopped short by the sight of over 100 people sitting down to meal… in the middle of the street. The Meal on Main event will once again be taking over Main Street on Wednesday evening, September 11th.

This is the second year that the Clarion Chamber and Development and Healthy Harvest of North Iowa will be collaborating on the event, in conjunction with several contributors and sponsors. Clarion Chamber Director Ali Disney explains that the Meal on Main is Clarion’s take on a farm-to-fork event. Guests will be served a multi-course meal that is comprised of local foods, prepared by local restaurants and businesses. Disney adds they are taking the local aspect even further by also featuring local vendors, art, and music that night as well.

The idea for the Meal on Main was conceived last year by the folks at Healthy Harvest of North Iowa. Marie Boyd, the organization’s executive director says, "A Meal on Main was born out of the question: ‘what would you like to see your local food system look like?’ and the planning partners responded with a dream of an event down Main Street that would celebrate all that Wright County had to offer for food, arts, and culture."
