Klaver & Wesselink, C-G-D band instructors, share love of music; have military backgrounds

As we turn the page to May, our thoughts turn to Memorial Day. It is time to pay tribute to people who have died in active military service. We also decorate graves of loved ones we have lost and we reflect on people who are currently serving in the military, as well as those who have served our country in the past.

Our Clarion area has the distinction of having both of our Clarion-Goldfield-Dows band instructors being past or current members of the United States military. High school band instructor Kent Wesselink for the past nine years served in the U.S. Army, beginning in 1993. Currently, he is Commander of the Iowa National Guard Army Band based in Fairfield, a position he has held since 2008. Tom Klaver served in active duty with the Navy Band in the Great Lakes region from 1997-2001.

Their lives have been intertwined with each other and the Clarion area for decades.
