Jeanette E. (Thompson) Prehm, 90, formerly of Holmes, passed away Friday, July 31, 2020 at Rotary Ann Senior Living in Eagle Grove, Iowa.

Funeral services for Jeanette Prehm will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Holmes Lutheran Church, 2139 Hancock Avenue in rural Clarion. Burial will follow at Holmes Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation for Jeanette Prehm will be held from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM on Thursday at Holmes Lutheran Church.

Jeanette was born November 11, 1929 in rural Hamilton County to Levi and Stella Thompson and attended school in Roland.

Jeanette was united in marriage to John Prehm, Jr. on December 31, 1947 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Ames, Iowa. In 1951, they moved to Holmes where they worked for Bernie and Anne Case in the grocery store business. They later purchased the store in Holmes and it became well-known as Johnnie’s Food Store. After that, Jeanette started working for the B&W in Clarion. She always liked working, and when she wasn’t at the store in the summer, she would walk beans for area farmers. Later on in life, she started working for Flo Guard in Holmes. She eventually retired from Flo Guard.

Jeanette was a long-standing member of Holmes Lutheran Church. She loved singing in the choir. When the kids were young, she always made sure they had their Sunday School lessons memorized before they could stay up late and watch late night TV.

Whenever possible, the whole family would get together and have a great meal and lots of run, including ball games, motorcycle riding and hot wheels. They could almost hear the hot wheels when everyone left. They were great times! She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Jeanette and John loved camping, fishing and spending time together. There were a few times when Jeanette would cast out and catch John’s hat. They had a lot of fun! One of her favorite things to do was to sit an drink coffee together in the mornings.

John and Jeanette moved to Assisted Living in 2008, and in 2019, she moved across the street. Everyone who worked there was so good to her. She was lucky to have them. Due to Covid-19, the staff became her family and took good care of her.

Jeanette is survived by her three children, Randy (Coleen) Prehm of Streetman, Texas, Danny (Deb) Prehm of Eagle Grove and Terry Grover of Brooklyn, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jeanette is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, her sisters Leone Kuhlman, Ethyl Kinkade and Pauline Sampson and her brother, Harlan Thompson.
