Hampton-Dumont lays a 44-14 loss on Cowboys

It was a costly loss, in more ways than just one, in Hampton last Friday as the home Bulldogs scored a 44-14 win over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows/CAL. Both Zach Pogge and Tanner Abbas were lost for the remainder of the season to injuries, with the Cowboys scoring once in both the first and fourth quarters while allowing the Bulldogs 22 first quarter points.

The Cowboys looked good in the early going, as Kainan Braun found CAL’s Israel Rivera for a 72-yard touchdown pass before everyone was even settled into their seats. The only other score for them came in the fourth, as Bryce Hamilton took it in from two-yards out. A two-point conversion pass from Braun to Reymundo Vasquez was also good.

“We started great, forcing them to punt on their first possession and then following up with a nice touchdown pass on our first play from scrimmage,” said head coach Paul Hansch. “In more than half the games we’ve played this year, we have scored first. However, we struggled defensively in that quarter following our first score."
