Good luck Cowboys at State Golf Tournament!

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys golf team will be one of the nine teams in Class 2A playing this Thursday and Friday at the State Golf Tournament on the American Legion Memorial Course in Marshalltown. Roland-Story won the district title at the Fox Ridge course in Dike, shooting an 18-hole total of 321. They were followed by the host Wolverines at 322 and the Cowboys at 326 as all of them advance. The rest of the team finishes were: New Hampton 328, Denver 331, North Fayette Valley 332 and South Hamilton 349.

Scores for the Cowboys were as follows: Dalton Nesheim 36-37 for 73 (2nd overall); Zach Martin 43-49 for 82; Will Weidemann 43-42 for 85; Blake Jackson 41-45 for 86; Alec Martin 45-43 for 88 and Sam Johnson 48-41 for 89.

“It was a really competitive district meet, and I knew going in that the top five teams could be either first to fifth and that is how it went,” stated coach Pat O’Brien. “Dalton’s score was huge. It helped us cover some of the ‘hiccups’ by others. Solid scores after that did it for us. We are honored to represent our school in the state tournament. We are not done competing yet, as we want to finish this thing strong!”

The course is located at 1301 South Sixth Street. And the teams tee off on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and Friday at 8 a.m. (weather permitting). Those three teams will be joined by Kuemper Catholic, Estherville-Lincoln Central, West Branch, Central Lee (Donnellson), PCM (Monroe) and Des Moines Christian.
