Girls fifth, boys eighth at Belmond cross country

  Clarion-Goldfield cross country coach Bob EnTin continues to learn more about his team with each meet, and a few new faces stepped up to shine at the Belmond-Klemme Invitational held last Tuesday at the country club course east of Belmond.

  The Cowgirl varsity team took fifth place out of eight class A teams, with first place going to Osage with 42 points. Following them were West Hancock-Garner-Hayfield/Ventura with 48, Eagle Grove with 105, Clear Lake with 108, Clarion-Goldfield with 130, Hampton-Dumont with 141, Central Springs with 168 and Forest City with 176. South Hamilton was team champ in class B.

  “We had another strong showing,” said EnTin. Kenzie Alberts was the top finisher on the team, taking 15th place in a time of 19:27. Other Cowgirl varsity finishes and times were: Claire Davis (22nd) in 20:25, Samantha Nerem (28th) in 20:46, Maci Konopasek (29th) in 20:46, Courtney Studer (36th) in 22:08, Cierra Milner (42nd) in 23:04 and Megan Hoing (48th) in 25:37. Mollie Osterman also ran, and scored a time of 25:38. “There were 89 runners, with the varsity and junior varsity running together with the first seven scorers counting as varsity,” said EnTin.
