Ginn hired as News Editor at the Monitor

Last week, Kacey Ginn joined the staff of the Wright County Monitor as its new news editor.

Ginn says she is looking forward to getting to know Wright County as she writes and meets new people.

She was born in Illinois, but grew up in Wellman, Iowa. Since then, she’s loved Iowa small town life. Ginn graduated from South Hamilton High School in Jewell before heading to college at Taylor University in Upland, Ind., where she graduated this spring with a Bachelor of Science in professional writing.

“The pro writing program is geared toward publishing and writing in many forms,” Ginn said. “I didn’t know when I was at school that I’d be doing newswriting, but I’m glad to be able to use writing to serve my new community.”

While at school, Ginn wrote for Taylor University’s paper, The Echo, WBCL radio, The Secret Place, and Christian Communicator. She spent a great deal of her time, however, at Taylor University’s Mitchell Theatre, where she served backstage as properties master and onstage occasionally as an actor.

“Newspaper production is kind of like the theater in that it takes a lot of creative effort, and in the end, all of the parts have to come together to make the whole,” commented Ginn.

Ginn’s other writing experience includes an internship at World Gospel Mission in Marion, Ind., where she frequently interviewed missionaries from around the world and wrote for WGM’s magazine, The Call.

Kacey and her husband, Caleb, moved to Eagle Grove from Jewell after their marriage in June. Both Ginns are avid readers, and Kacey also plans to publish fiction. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, crafting, hiking, and drawing.
