Gene Smith

Gene Leonard Smith passed away on December 30, 2020 at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.

Gene was born February 26, 1964 to Clarence “Razz” and Beverly (Day) Smith.

He was blessed with two sons, Corey Lee Reed in 1982 and Daniel Lucius Smith in 1986.

Gene married Teri Florea in 1995. He adopted Teri’s daughter Ashley Kay Marie in May 2002. Subsequently Gene and Teri divorced in 2007.

In his youth, Gene worked for Kirstein mowing. Later in life, he worked for Sadler Construction in Eagle Grove, IA.

Gene enjoyed fishing, visiting with family and helping others. He always maintained a positive attitude even when he was battling lung/brain cancer.

Gene is survived by his children: Corey of Humboldt, IA, Daniel of Fort Dodge, IA and Ashley of Ames, IA and grandson: Daniel Jr. “DJ”.

He is survived by his siblings: Edward (Gail) Smith of Humboldt, IA, Pat (Lynn) Barz of Dows, IA, Bob (Melissa) Smith of Batesville, AR, Janice Flurer of Clarion, IA and Jim (Becky) Flurer of Clarion, IA, sister- in-law Pam Smith of Clarion, IA and several nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rick, sister Deborah and infant brother Steven. Also preceding him in death were his niece Allison Smith and nephew Trent Smith.

Per his wishes, he has been cremated and will be buried next to his father at the Union Cemetery in Livermore, IA.
