Fun at Fuel: Fuel raises $5900 for fire department, Lake Cornelia, and Alzheimer’s Association

On Wednesday, August 26, Fuel hosted a fundraiser concert and auction that raised $5,900 for three different organizations. Deschute’s Brewery was on hand to distribute drinks, and the event was graced by Iowan country singer Jake McVey.

The event was not conceived as a fundraiser. Earlier this summer, Deschute’s contacted Curt and Kammy Nelson, the owners of Fuel, in the hope of doing a touring event with their famous Woody Barrel. Kammy thought live music would be a good idea, so she contacted the agent of Jake McVey, who had played at Fuel’s anniversary event in June, and found that he was availale. At that point, she realized the event would make a good fundraiser and set about picking causes.

“I asked around the community to see which organizations could use some funds,” Kammy explained.

Representatives from the Lake Cornelia Improvement Project helped with the auction and the Clarion Volunteer Fire Department manned the entrances. The $5900 raised was divided between those two groups and the area’s Alzheimer’s Association.
