Drunk driver gets two years for killing woman

Jonathon Roelofsen, of Kanawha, was sentenced to two years in prison and given a $1,875 fine after pleading guilty to driving under the influence, second offense. Roelofsen was sentenced on Friday, Sept. 13.

Roelofsen, 29, struck Sabrina Reibsamen with his Pontiac Grand Prix while she was walking along a country road on August 17 of last year. Court documents put Roelofsen’s blood alcohol level at .086 the night of the accident.

County Attorney Eric Simonson did not charge Roelofson with a traffic death charge, saying that an investigation by the Iowa State Patrol found that alcohol did not cause the accident. Simonson said that there wasn’t evidence to suggest that Roelofsen was speeding or driving recklessly.
