District 8 house candidates explain their positions at Clarion event

            The Clarion Lions Club and the local chapter of the AAUW sponsored a candidate’s forum last Tuesday at the Clarion Public Library. The “Candidates Conversations” featured District 8 House candidates, Republican incumbent Terry Baxter and Democratic challenger Connie Price. District 8 covers Wright, Hancock and part of Kossuth counties. The two were asked several questions submitted by the crowd throughout the event and each was given two minutes to answer.  A summary of each candidate’s background and responses to the most prominent questions follows.

            Incumbent Terry Baxter:

            Baxter is from Garner and has been serving district 8 in the House for the last four years. He serves on several committees including agriculture, natural resources, and economic development. He is also the chairman of the International Relationships Committee.
