DARE graduation

Every year, fifth-grade students at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Elementary takes part in the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program in cooperation with the Clarion Police Department. Students learn about risky behavior, decision-making, and safety. On Friday, March 31, the students had a graduation ceremony from the program, attended by parents and teachers.

This was Police Chief Steve TerHark’s 21st year of teaching D.A.R.E. “He really made an impact with kids and we really appreciate that,” said Tanja Jensen, one of the fifth grade teachers at C-G-D elementary.

TerHark said he’s enjoyed being able to work in the school. “Police presence is very important,” he said. “We want to make sure the students aren’t scared of us.”
