Cross country teams travel to Eagle Grove

The Dick Bell Invitational was held last Tuesday at the Eagle Grove Country Club course, with Gilbert taking the girls Class A team title with 47 points. They were followed in the top five by Emmetsburg with 84, Humboldt with 94, Algona with 99 and Eagle Grove with 133 points. The Cowgirls were 10th at 224 points. Newman Catholic took the Class B crown.

Raven Kinnetz led the way for the red & black with a 23rd place finish and a 23:22.74 time to medal. Behind her in order were: Waldina Villanueva in 42nd at 25:11.31; Alejandra Lopez in 51st at 25:39.57; Makayla Pulido in 57th at 25:54.38; Natalie Kirstein in 61st at 26:24.18; Kylie Klaver in 89th at 29:18.47; Alisha Vatne in 91st at 29:28.00 and Lauren Hansch in 97th at 30:32.56.

“We were just 17 points from finishing eighth,” stated head coach Dan Murray. “All of the girls ran better than at Algona, but Clear Lake was faster than at the Algona meet. They had two girls run about two minutes faster and two others that ran about a minute faster. Makayla continues her streak of big personal records (PR) by improving by 40 seconds. Natalie improved her PR by 40 seconds and Waldina was 30 seconds faster than her previous best. Lauren had a huge PR by three minutes! Raven again ran well over the final mile to improve nine spots at the finish.”

Gilbert won Class A for the boys with 37 points, followed in the top five by Humboldt with 51, Clear Lake with 112, Forest City with 120 and Eagle Grove with 137 points. The Cowboys were eighth out of 10 complete teams with 224 points. West Fork took the Class B title.
