Cross country teams compete at Southeast Valley

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows/CAL cross country teams ventured to Gowrie last Thursday for their season opener hosted by Southeast Valley. St. Edmond won the girls title with 37 points, followed in the top three by South Central Calhoun with 40 and Ridge View with 83. The Cowgirls took sixth place. West Central Valley was the boys team champ with 63 points, followed by SE Valley with 64, South Central Calhoun with 70 and the Cowboys with 80 in the six team field.

“Varsity and JV all run together at this meet, and it’s a nice start to the season to give everyone an equal chance to earn their spots going forward,” stated head coach Missy Springsteen-Haupt. “The course is relatively flat, so I admit I was hoping for better than average times. Unfortunately, the late August heat wasn’t cooperating with those wishes. In the girls race, Castro pushed for 25th as our medal winner. Our roster this year is anyone’s game. The heat kept the girls from performing up to their goals, and we definitely have work to do to be competitive. One thing is certain, and that is that I am thrilled with the attitude and mentality of all these young women. We have hard workers with positive attitudes, and that makes me excited to see what they can accomplish with a little more practice time.”
