Cross country teams compete at Osage Invite

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows cross country teams traveled to Osage for a meet last Tuesday. The girls varsity team title went to Crestwood with 23 points, followed in the top five of the 11-team field by Newman Catholic with 84, Nashua-Plainfield with 87, Forest City with 117 and Osage with 120. The Cowgirls were 11th with a 231 total.

Angela Castro took 49th in 26:23.41, and was followed by: Katherine Lopez at 56th in 26:57.99; Stephanie Castro at 59th in 27:09.45; Raven Kinnetz at 61st in 27:37.84; Maya Jackson at 63rd in 28:03.56 and Kylie Klaver at 65th in 28:07.57.

“This was by far the most difficult course our team has ever seen,” stated head coach Missy Springsteen-Haupt. “I knew we were taking a gamble with adding a new meet to our schedule, instead of running at Clear Lake. I was not prepared for the level of challenge it would be, and none of us were. As a coach, I think it’s a great addition to our schedule. We need a challenging course, and this meet happens early enough in the season that we will reap the benefits of the training it provides."
