Cross country teams compete at Belmond

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows/CAL cross country teams competed at a meet hosted by Belmond-Klemme last Tuesday. Newman Catholic won the varsity girls team title with 55 points, followed in the top five of the 12-team field by Clear Lake with 67, Eagle Grove with 109, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura with 119 and West Fork with 121. The Cowgirls were 10th with 272 points.

Pacing the red and black was Angela Castro in 44th with a 27:18.44 time. She was followed by: Maya Jackson 56th in 8:21.83; Kayleen Johnson 57th in 28:38.37; Brenna Harklau 59th in 29:12.40; Katherine Lopez 60th in 29:12.87; Kylie Klaver 61st in 29:30.81 and Myriam Carrillo 67th in 31:38.21.

JV finishes and times were as follows: Ami Martinez 22nd in 32:32.04; Jade LaRue 23rd in 33:15.63; Maya LaRue 27th in 36:06.44 and Marlud Landeros 29th in 37:19.19.

The Cowboys were seventh in the team standings. Clear Lake won with 47 points, followed in order by: Eagle Grove 67, Newman Catholic 76, West Fork 99, Forest City 125, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 151, Lake Mills 182 and Belmond-Klemme 239.
