Coyboys keep it close in all four games, earn tie versus Bulldogs

In a Thursday game at Hampton-Dumont, the contest with the Bulldogs ended in a 6-6 tie and will not be completed. Brendon ripped a two-run homer in the game, one of two hits for him, while O’Connor went 3 for 3 with three RBI. Martin was 2 for 3 and scored a run, while Tegtmeyer, Leist, Weidemann and Reed all had base hits. Leist, Reed, Tanner and Jaace Weidemann all scored a run each. Tanner showed speed on the base paths with two steals, while Reed and Stein had one each. Tegtmeyer and Stein drew two walks each. Martin pitched five innings, allowing six earned with a walk and five K’s.

“Rained ended this one early, and we were leading in the sixth when it got called,” said Willwerth. “The state rule is that the game reverts back to the previous completed inning if cancelled by rain. We were hitting up and down the lineup, and were able to manufacture a couple of runs on the basepaths. I wish we could have played seven, and gotten a definitive finish.”

The team hosted Humboldt on Friday, and again kept it close in a 6-4 loss. Leist and Will Weidemann doubled in their only plate contact, with Tanner going 2 for 4 and Brendon and Steiner hitting singles. Tegtmeyer, Reed, O’Connor and Tanner scored the runs, with Tegtmeyer credited with two RBI and both Leist and Stein one each. Leist threw six innings, giving up three earned on six hits with five walks and six K’s. Brier Boyd had a strikeout over one inning.
