Cowgirls on winning streak, defeat Garrigan and Clear Lake

Celeste Swanson 20 kills vs. Clear Lake, Polzin 23 of 23 serving with three aces

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity volleyball team is starting to round into regional tournament form, and will attempt to keep their five-match win streak going to ride that into the postseason.

For the second time in less than a week, the red and black knocked off the rated Bishop Garrigan squad in three straight sets last Tuesday. Scores were 25-20, 25-21, 25-23.

“After playing them at their tournament, we knew we would have our work cut out to beat them again,” said head coach Katrina TerHark. “They had a similar record as us and we knew they had some tough hitters that we were going to have to stop. I couldn’t be more proud of our girls. They came out fighting from the start. All of our sets were close, but the third set is when we really showed a lot of poise and I really felt like our team grew during that third set. We were down 10-5, then came back to go ahead 12-10. Then both teams would trade the lead by a few then give up the lead. We were tied at 20-20 and just sealed the deal. Hannah TerHark came up with three big kills, and both Jossie and Celeste had some big blocks that allowed us to hold on to the win.”
