Cowgirls win one of three matches, go 5-1 at Garrigan

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity volleyball team started a busy week with a triangular on Tuesday hosted by Pocahontas Area/Laurens-Marathon, with Algona joining in as well. The red and black lost 2-1 to the Indians by set scores of L25-19, W25-16 and L15-12. Team serving was at 83.9 percent, with Kenna Kruger going 11 of 12 (one ace) and Jadyn Jondle 10 of 12 (three). Megan Askelsen and Alaina Friesleben both were 7 of 8 with an ace each, while Vanessa Kolb was 7 of 9 (one). Haley Nerem was 5 of 7 (one).

“We didn’t start out very strong,” stated head coach Katrina TerHark. “We finally got some momentum going at the end of the first set, and then took care of business the second set. We were tied at 11-11 in the third, then just couldn’t pull away to get the win.”

They also faced Algona that same night, losing to the Bulldogs in straight sets 25-22 and 25-22. Team serving was at 86.4 percent, with Kolb a perfect 10 of 10. Nerem went 7 of 8, Kruger 6 of 7, Friesleben 6 of 8 (one), Askelsen 5 of 6 and Jondle 4 of 5.
