Cowgirls win North Iowa Relays, third at home relays

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls track & field team finished third in class A at the Cowgirl Relays last Tuesday. Pocahontas Area/Laurens-Marathon finished first with 345 points, followed in order by: Forest City 244, C-G-D 239, Iowa Falls-Alden 201, Hampton-Dumont 182 and Garner-Haydfield/Ventura 121.

“It was a nice night, and the girls wanted to win it again,” said head coach Monty Harker. “I just wanted to see us run faster. We did better in some of the things I thought we would. The girls seemed pleased with the results.”

Field event highlights noted by the coach included Maddie Disney winning the long jump with 15’ .50”. “That’s one of her farthest this year,” said Harker. He liked seeing Celeste Swanson finally making 5’ in the high jump (2nd), and noted that Mikayla Hennigar had her farthest throw of the year in the discus (90’ 2” for 4th).
