Cowgirls win another 44-34 over Eagle Grove

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity girls basketball team visited neighboring Eagle Grove last Thursday and came away with a 44-34 win for their second victory of the year. The score was 21-19 Cowgirls at the break.

Chloe Johnson netted 12 points, including draining a pair of treys. Courtney Harle finished with nine points, Hannah Terhark eight points and Megan Askelsen six points on 4 of 8 from the line. Sid Magee, Maya Jackson, Lili Swanson and Emily Kapka all scored two points each, while Vanessa Kolb added one point. Harle grabbed seven boards, with Terhark getting possession of six rebounds and Kolb five. Johnson and Askelsen got their hands on three caroms each, with Magee, Mariah Frye and Kapka all grabbing two each. Cyndi Fregoso had one.

“We had two great quarters in this game to get the win,” stated head coach Kevin Kakacek. “We jumped out to a nine point lead to start, and then in the third outscored them by seven points. It really helped that Chloe stepped up from the outside by keeping the scoring going. She has been struggling with her shot in the last week, so it was nice to see her hit those shots. Courtney played another good game on the offensive side. She is also one on defense that gets a lot of rebounds and is quick to the ball. Hannah had another solid game. I wish we could get the ball to her more to keep the offense going and run our offense from inside out.”
