Cowgirls take second place in their volleyball invitational

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity volleyball team came up a little short of taking their third straight Cowgirl Invitational title, falling to South Hamilton in the championship match.

They started the day with a three set win in pool play over Eagle Grove by scores of L23-21, W21-11 and W15-5. The team served at 96.6 percent, with Megan Askelsen going 11 of 11 (2 ace serves) and Ana Johnson going 7 of 8 (2 aces). Kenna Kruger had 11 assists as setter, with Johnson and Hannah TerHark making four kills each. Askelsen had five digs and Haley Nerem four. Vanessa Kolb and TerHark each had three solo blocks.

“We were a little up and down in the first set,” stated head coach Katrina TerHark. “We were able to get some of our first game jitters out of the way. Once we settled down and got to business, we were successful. Sometimes a loss is good early on, to know how you have to come out to play every time.”
