Cowgirls lose to Humboldt, Clear Lake

Disney scores 11, Sann 10 versus Wildcats

Even with two Cowgirls scoring in double figures, it still wasn’t enough for the Clarion-Goldfield varsity team to overcome a good Humboldt club in a 50-39 home loss last Friday. The Wildcats went up 13-5 after a quarter, only to have the red and black fight back to take a 23-22 lead into the locker room.

“We played a good game until the fourth quarter,” said head coach Kevin Kakacek. “When you only score four in the fourth, with just a three point lead, you’re going to struggle. We started out slow and off with our shots. We got the shots we needed, but just couldn’t get the ball in the basket. In the second quarter, we started to hit the shots we needed and got the lead at halftime. We stayed with them in the third and did a good job of working the ball around for a good shot. In the fourth quarter, Humboldt picked up their defense and offense while we sat back and watched. Our guards struggled with their pressure, and did not make the passes needed to win.”
