Cowgirls go on two game win streak

Last Thursday night in Belmond, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity girls basketball team was able to pick up a much-needed road win in defeating the Broncos 59-42. They staked their claim to the game early, racking up a 30-18 halftime lead and then pulled away through the third quarter by doubling up on the home team 16 points to eight.

“We shot well, and that is what it takes,” stated head coach Kevin Kakacek. “Both Hannah Kapka and Hannah TerHark shot well, and Disney shot well from outside. Their defense allowed us the open shots, and as opposed to the game with Hampton-Dumont we made those shots. Our defense was okay, but could have been better. We also moved the ball much better in this one.”

Those three players mentioned all reached double figures in the scoring column. Disney pumped in 25 points, which included four buckets from downtown, while both Kapka and TerHark popped in 10 points each. Ashley Keller scored five points, Sydney TerHark four points, Chloe Johnson and Kenzie Alberts both two points apiece and Shelby Engh one point of the total. Disney snagged eight balls off the glass, with Engh, Sydney TerHark and Alberts all grabbing four caroms each. Hannah TerHark got three rebounds, Keller two and Lili Swanson, Mikayla Hennigar, Kennedy Goodell and Kapka all one apiece.
