Cowgirls give good effort, come up short in regional loss

The season ended last Tuesday for the Clarion- Goldfield-Dows softball team in a 10-6 Class 2A regional loss at Clear Lake. The red and black had taken a 3-2 advantage after their half of the second inning, only to see the Lions tie it after three complete frames. After the Cowgirls went ahead again at 5-3, the home team erupted to plate seven scores in the fourth which proved to be more than enough to win.

In the second, Emma Schluttenhofer led with a walk followed by Gabby Hackley doing the same to put two on. Courtney Harle then reached base to bring in Schluttenhofer, with Megan Askelsen driving in courtesy runner Jadyn Jondle. Vanessa Kolb’s base hit then brought home Askelsen. In the fourth, Askelsen reached on a walk followed two batters later by a Faith Nelson single. Both Askelsen and Nelson would cross the plate on errors. An Askelsen double to center in the fifth would score Jondle.
