Cowgirls easily defeat Gaels 55-28

After building a nice 29-20 halftime lead, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity girls basketball team really clamped down their defense in the second half of last Friday’s home game with St. Edmond. The resulting effort held the Gaels to just eight points for the entire half as the Cowgirls pulled away to a 55-28 win. That offense included an 18-0 run in the third quarter.

“This was a good overall game for us,” stated head coach Kevin Kakacek. “We attacked from the start. We did a good job of moving the ball and attacking the open spots.”

Maddie Disney poured in 21 points, including hitting three buckets from downtown. Kenzie Alberts and Hannah Kapka both scored eight points each to aid the offensive attack, while Sydney TerHark chipped in five points. Shelby Engh scored three points, with Chloe Johnson, Ashley Keller, Lili Swanson, Mikayla Hennigar and Hannah TerHark all adding two points each to the total. The 30 total rebounds column was led by Disney with seven, while Alberts was close behind at six boards and Engh five. Keller grabbed four caroms, Hannah TerHark three and Kennedy Goodell and Kapka both two each. Sydney TerHark snagged one rebound.
