Cowgirls defeat West Hancock, drop three other conference games

The Clarion-Goldfield varsity girls basketball team ran into a difficult portion of their schedule last week in dropping three conference contests. In stepping out of conference play on Saturday night, they defeated West Hancock at home.

Starting with Tuesday, they lost a 76-38 home game with Clear Lake. The Lions established dominance early, forging a 48-24 halftime advantage. “They’re flat out better,” said head coach Kevin Kakacek. “We looked a step behind and were not 100 percent ready. The Lions came out on fire, hitting four three-pointers in the first quarter, while our shots didn’t fall. Clear Lake loves to run and they’re good shooters. We just sat back and let them. They’re way to quick, and we’re not quick enough to go man to man against them. Then when we decided to move out a bit, they drove it in on us.”
