Cowgirls defeat Lynx, lose tough one to Wildcats

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity girls basketball team went to Webster City last Friday and used double-digit scoring from three players for a nice 51-48 road win over the home Lynx. The red and black clung to a one-point margin 9-8 after a quarter of play, and increased it slightly to lead 26-21 at the break. They were still up 41-35 after three periods.

“We got scoring out of our role players,” stated head coach Kevin Kakacek. “We didn’t get the stops we needed in the third to stretch our lead. We had great scoring from Sydney and Shelby, which helped. It was balanced scoring and more points from where we needed them.”

Maddie Disney led the above-mentioned trio with 12 counters, including a bucket from long range and 5 of 8 at the charity line. Sydney TerHark and Kenzie Alberts both finished with 11 points apiece, with TerHark bombing away again for three baskets from downtown. Alberts was 50 percent from the field at 5 of 10. Shelby Engh with eight points, Hannah TerHark with six points and Ashley Keller with a three-pointer completed the scoring column.
